Beautiful Myla

Early in July, Myla got her face painted at the Elkhart County Fair.  She thought it was soooo cool.   And it was.  :)

Love this one of her beautiful face.

Luke: 22 Months

Luke turned 22 months old last June.  These shots perfectly capture him at that time--wild, goofy, fun, and usually filthy!

Cruising in the Car Seat

So, as part of our catching up on the blog postings, I have pulled a bunch of photos off my iPhone.  Some of the pictures may have made their way to the blog in past postings, but I tried to group them into similar themes.  I'll sprinkle in these slideshows in the coming weeks.  Some of them are quite old as you will see from the ages of the kids.

Today, I'll share a slideshow that has several pictures of the kids in their car seats.  There have been many moments while in the car when we turn around and capture the kids doing something goofy or just being cute.  Enjoy!

Visit From Maria and Jonathan

We always enjoy when the families come to visit us for the kids' birthdays, but with lots of people in town, it can be tough for the aunts and uncles to get good time with the kids.  So Uncle Jonathan and Aunt Maria came up the weekend after Myla's birthday party and we had a great time.

It's tough at times being so far away from our families and early on we worried that the kids wouldn't have close relationships with their extended families.  However, thanks to webcams, cell phones, and family that make the dreaded five hour drive through central Indiana, our kids seem to be as close with their relatives as any other kids.  They get really excited when people come to visit or we drive back to KY.

If you come visit, you better be prepared to play with the kids, read to them, and have them snuggle into your lap without warning.  You can tell from this picture that they were as happy and as comfortable as they could be with their aunt and uncle.

Thanks for coming all the way up to visit us!

Myla's 4th Birthday

Myla celebrated her fourth birthday on June 5. This year was the first year we had a party with her friends. It was attended by East Bank friends Hailey, Emily, Jonah, and Ciaran, and by Lucy and Claire McNally. Her main request was for a pinata, which inspired a Mexican theme. The kids had a great time--probably no one more than Luke, who loved the pinata and then ate his weight in cake.

The following weekend, Myla's grandparents came up. We all went to a Silver Hawks game and then had a nice party at home. Thanks to everyone for making the trip, and for helping us celebrate the big 4! Enjoy this slide show of all the festivities.

Swimming Pool

We had some unusually warm days in May, so we got the little swimming pool out early.  It's an easy way to have a ton of fun!

Oink!

As soon as summer gets going, we make our first trip of the year to New Buffalo. They have a wood-fired pizza place that Matthew and I love (Stop 50), and a super-fun and super-delicious ice cream place called Oink's.  As you can see, Myla is a huge fan of the ice cream.  Luke, weirdly, still refuses to even try ice cream.  So he just hung out looking too cool for words in his Blues Brothers shirt.

Mother's Day in Goshen

Last year on Mother's Day I suggested to Kasey that we should drive over to Goshen (40 minutes east) to have dinner at a restaurant that we like.  So we packed up the kids and drove all the way over there only to learn that the restaurant is closed on Sundays.  In fact, the entire town of Goshen seemed to be shut down.  So Kasey's  Mother's Day dinner ended up being at a bad Mexican restaurant 40 minutes away when our favorite Mexican restuarant is 3 minutes up the street from us.  Oh well!  She was a trooper and we made the best of it by enjoying some time after dinner at a really great park.  It is one of those big wooden playgrounds that is probably a pretty magical place for a kid as it has all kinds of slides, bridges, and little hiding places.  I know there are a lot of parks like this now, but I sometimes laugh at the very simple parks I played on as a kid.  The parks these days are so big you really have to keep an eye on them.   - Matthew

Giant Bouncy Ball

We bought these big bouncy balls that were a hit with the kids.  One of our favorite games was for me or Kasey to kick the ball as high as we could - and they would go pretty high - and then watch the kids run all over the yard/driveway trying to catch it.

This is when I got home from work.  Nothing better than being welcomed home by two cute smiling kids after a long day at work. - Matthew

Myla loves this game.

Here is an action shot of the kids trying to catch the ball.  They play well together but we resolved most of the fights by buying a second ball.

Not even sure how to describe this picture.  Myla limped around for an hour after having the Michelin Man sit on her lap.

Long Overdue Posts

Yes, we are still here.  For those of you that still visit the blog, thanks for sticking with us.  It's been so long, that I don't even remember my Google password, so I'm in under Kasey's account.  Yes, it is actually Matthew writing this post.

Kasey has always been the engine behind the Blaze Baby Blog and she was inspired to get back in action.  So we are currently sitting in a Panera having a post-a-thon of all the pictures from 2012.  I make no promises as to how many posts we'll make, nor am I foolish enough to promise that we won't have long periods of inactivity in the future.  However, I think you'll find the next few weeks enjoyable as we try to share some fun pictures from last year and, with any luck, this year.

We'll get the party started on Wednesday with a slide show from Easter 2012.  We've been laughing at all the pictures as we post tonight so I think you'll do the same.  Enjoy! - Matthew

Trying something new

We have stopped posting on the blog because we just haven't had time for it. But I did just get an iPhone, so I'm going to see if I can learn to post using the blogger app. If it works, I might be able to at least get new pictures up occasionally!

Here are a couple from last week. Luke used the potty at school a few times that week, and Myla rewarded him by making this crown. All her idea and handy work. Hilarious!
