What the Deuce?!?!

Please, if anybody out there is reading this, help me. My name is Baby Blaze, I live in South Bend, IN, and my mom is a crazy woman. Last Saturday we were enjoying a nice evening of hanging with the girls, talking about boys, and making fun of my dad. I was feeling a little ignored as they all talk about me, but never with me. My dad is the only one that listens to me so I can't wait 'til it's his turn to hold me!

Anyway, despite my warnings, my mom tried to walk down the hardwood stairs at a friend's house in her socks. I could see it coming a mile away and you would think that my mom would understand a left hook to the inside of the ribs means "pay attention to what you're doing." So I'm trying to talk to Jen about where she buys Ella's clothes, and the next thing I know we're sliding down the stairs on mom's back! I was the only one laughing because, while it was scary, it was also kind of fun. Do it again! Do it again!

On Wednesday, my dad dropped my mom off outside her office after lunch. I was still finishing up my lunch because no matter where we go, my food always takes longer to come to the table, and I'm a bit of a slow eater. Anyway, I'm minding my own business and the next thing I know I'm tumbling forward and my food goes flying everywhere. Vile woman! Do I need to teach you how to walk! Luckily, dad came running over to help us up and settle everyone down. I was perfectly fine, but the silly doctor woman told my mom we still had to go the hospital to check everything out. After three hours of poking and monitoring, we left the hospital with no problems. I'm perfectly fine, but my mom has a few scrapes and bruises on her hands and knees from where she fell. That will teach her.

April Foolishness

As I hope most of you have figured out by now, yesterday's post about having a boy was an April Fool's prank, orchestrated by my darling husband. In fact, there was no ultrasound yesterday, so we have no new information at all on that front and as far as we know we're still happily expecting a daughter.

I had hoped people would figure out that it was a joke fairly quickly, but unfortunately we have some pretty gullible folks among our loyal readers. Granny Buckles got herself worked into quite a frenzy, and then called my uncle, my grandpa, my other grandparents...by this afternoon, things had gotten a little out of hand. I made some calls to clear things up, but Granny is still pretty riled up! She's threatening not to cook for Matthew anymore, and if you've ever had her delicious cooking, you know what a loss that would be. I can't say he doesn't deserve such punishment!

Anyway, happy April Fool's Day and happy April! I can't believe April is here and we're at the seven months mark. We have a lot going on over the next several weeks, so look for more updates--hopefully we haven't alienated our readers with this prank. And keep your fingers crossed that Baby Blaze doesn't get her dad's sense of humor, or we're all going to be in trouble!

Aunt Kelly Throws a Shower

My sister Kelly hosted my first baby shower over Easter Weekend, and she did such an amazing job. She made my favorite foods, including Hershey Pie, and had elaborate decorations (notice the diaper cake in the picture below). It was even further proof of what a great aunt she's going to be--so thanks, Kelly! Thanks also to her husband David and my mom for their help with the event.

We got some wonderful gifts from our family and friends in E'town. My mom made an afghan and a scrapbook for the baby, and we also got some special things of Mamaw Lettie's. First, my aunt Rita gave Baby Blaze and me a necklace that she had once given to Mamaw Lettie. Mamaw Lettie wore it every day for years and years, and Rita wanted the first great-great-granddaughter to have it. It meant a lot to us, and I put it in a little shadow box that we'll hang in the baby's room, along with Mamaw Lettie's "be careless" advice. My grandmother also gave me a doll quilt that Mamaw Lettie made for our baby. Both of these family heirlooms are pictured below.

My favorite part of the shower was hearing the women in my family talk about their own pregnancies and children. It was especially funny to hear about how attitudes toward baby care have changed over the last thirty-plus years. Like how my Aunt Shirley drove home from the hospital holding her son in her arms in the passenger seat, and how I stayed in a hotel in Illinois with my parents when I was two weeks old, and slept in a dresser drawer! But hey, my cousins and I survived!

Thanks to everyone who attended. It was wonderful to see you all!

We Didn't See This One Coming

Well, we had our last ultrasound this morning and let's just say we got quite a surprise. Baby Blaze looks as healthy as can be hoped, but now also looks like a boy! That's right. You can only imagine the response from Kasey and I when the ultrasound technician stopped about 10 minutes in and said, "That's interesting." My heart about stopped as I imagined some bad news. Then she said, "It looks like I was wrong on my original reading of the ultrasound. You're having a boy." Silence. Of course we must have asked a hundred times, "Are you sure?!?!"

The ultrasound technician pointed out that she told us the first time that she could only be 80 % certain that it was a girl. Of course, my response to that was "well, how certain are you now?" She said there is no doubt now and that she is 100% certain.

This is exactly why we decided to go with green paint and a lot of neutral colors. Thankfully, there isn't a whole lot of things that we can't change or take back to the store.

We've got pictures from the visit, but our scanner wasn't cooperating so I hope to get them posted later tonight.
