Good Light

It's the last day of September, but why stop when you're on a roll? The marathon will continue through the end of the week!

OMG, BFF!

Myla and Sophia Walsh got along great during our visit to Chicago. Their status as best friends was cemented when they realized that they had put on matching pajamas from the same "collection."

Sophia finds Myla's ear.
That tickles!
On their best behavior.

Slow news days

It's been a week of some pretty big press coverage of my "winter babies" paper. It was kicked off by this article in the Wall Street Journal. The paper has been in the news before, but this is the first time I really felt that the article accurately conveyed what the paper is about. If you've ever heard me talk about this paper and silently wondered "why on earth is an economist studying that?", this article explains it pretty well. Although that didn't stop the usual rants from January moms in the comments.

This has been followed up by appearances on CNN (live!) with Campbell Brown and on CNNRadio, and on the Freakonomics blog. Thanks to everyone who called and told me the CNN thing was good, despite sound difficulties and a studio that looked like it was from a high school news station.

Skyline

I'll have more pictures of the skyline tomorrow, but I thought this one deserved its own day.

Pretty in Purple

After leaving Collin's party, we headed straight to Chicago to spend the weekend with Ryan and Kim Walsh and their beautiful daughter Sophia. We'll have more pictures of this trip next week, but here are a few I shot while hanging out outside their apartment.

The Talbert-Slagles!

When Matthew and I lived in Boston, we spent a lot of time with our great friends Kristina and Jamie and their kids, Collin and Julia. They live near New Haven, CT, and were like family to us when ours were far away. We miss them so much now that we're in Indiana. By sheer luck, however, Kristina's sister Michelle also lives in South Bend, so we do get to see them a bit more than we might otherwise!

In August, the family came into town and held a 7th birthday party for Collin. We were so happy that we could attend. It was too short, but it was great to see them and we couldn't get over how big Collin and Julia are!

Really? The car seat base?

We recently moved Myla out of her Chicco infant carrier car seat and into her new big girl car seat. For a while, the old car seat base was in our house, and Myla loved it. She climbed on it like a jungle gym, sat in it, played with the straps . . . it was her favorite toy of all time.

Fabulous August Photo Marathon

I just downloaded a ton of pictures from our camera, and discovered some truly fantastic ones from the month of August. It's the perfect opportunity for a posting marathon! We'll have a new post every weekday for the rest of September. Oh yeah, you heard right! I can hear Kelly's squeals of joy from here.
Let's start things off with her (overdue) 14-month photo shoot. I had a new idea this time for getting the sign in the shot, and it worked beautifully. Big Cheese!

Pink Pincushion in Underpants

We just got back from Myla's appointment with Dr. Sanders. Everything looks good, and M.J. continues to be 90th percentile for height and head size, 25th percentile for weight (32 inches tall, 21 lb. 6 oz). Although by my calculations, a good chunk of her head circumference is hair! :)

She also got four shots and a blood draw today, which was pretty traumatic for the whole family. So if you see one of us, give us a hug!

(P.S.: The headline is a Calvin and Hobbes reference.)

Kelly, David, & Beano Visit

We were thrilled to have David and Kelly (and their little bun) come visit us this Labor Day Weekend. Kelly does a full recap on their blog, complete with lots more pictures and a slide show. But I will add that we were so grateful for their baby sitting and house cleaning services on Sunday! That's right--my pregnant sister came to visit me, and while Matthew and I went to a baseball game, she and David not only kept our daughter but also cleaned our house. Kelly really is the most thoughtful and generous person I know. We're all lucky to have her and David around (and their Wii), and little Beano is one lucky future-kiddo!

Here are a couple of pictures of the weekend. For more, visit Kelly's blog!

MJBs

Here are a couple of great pics of Myla and Matthew from the Silverhawks game. I especially love the one where she's holding his hand. It perfectly captures that time when she was just barely able to walk on her own.
